Ambivalent

“They are as dependable as a crooked bow”

Somewhere, at this precise moment in every country around the world, there is someone formulating a plan that will set in motion a chain of events that will radically and forever change the lives of countless people while simultaneously abruptly ending the lives of others.

With the execution of the plan, months of meticulous thought and rage will be channelled into a laser point of decisive action; every detail will have been painstakingly considered, again and again to the point that in the mind of this person the plan is without flaw.

I do not possess the ability to see such individuals at this stage of their lives, I am not in any way gifted to intervene in the subsequent days to prevent the course of action which will result in death and destruction. But it will most certainly and assuredly be reported on news channels, for a time their names will be synonymous with the end of their stories; we will be shocked, again, until the next time!

A thousand writers have tried to compose the perfect crime novel and many have made it to paper and film. Unfortunately for many of these successful candidates we are required to suspend certain elements of law and consequence for the outcome to be favourable to the perpetrators.

Meanwhile back in the real world our silent plotters wake up to the day that they have set in their minds as the day of inevitability. Tonight, long anticipated meals will not be cooked, a bed will be empty, an expected call will be replaced with a devastating one and an army of law enforcement will stir into action.

These are not ambivalent people!

Something or someone triggered within them a hatred or an anger the way a turning key sends a surge from the battery to the starter motor along the wires and through the printed circuit boards to cause a spark which ignites the puff of fuel in the combustion chamber of a car. And like that car, what began as a releasing of the brake steadilly progressed to a high speed journey with a clear destination in view.

The reason we love decisive individuals is because so many of us are completely ambivalent; we falter and procrastinate on every major and minor decision, unable to definitively state our opinion on anything from dinner choice to core belief.

Neither of the two animals above are encumbered with this affliction; one is hungry for food, the other is hungry for life.

It has become increasingly obvious over my lifetime that we have lost our way in Western society. Certain people are not allowed to be persuaded of any kind of firm belief for fear of being branded a radical; and yet at the same time minorities who shout with ever radical voices are placated for of litigation or violence. We have allowed ourselves to be fattened and entertained by an industry who care only about extracting every last penny from the masses to buttress their own profligate and extravagant lifestyles.

The general malaise has been slowly creeping over our population because of a succession of untrustworthy politicians and a general drift away from faith based living. The ease and financial security which our forebears could only dream about has been one of our greatest curses; there is no need to be decisive any more, we have settled for the lowest common denominator to encourage mediocrity and simplicity just for the feeling of being accepted and settled.

It is little wonder that such people we began with are squeezed out like an exploding boil.

It is time to shake off the dust of apathy and get something to stir our passions  again,  the alarm bell is ringing……….
